Dr. David Beltrán

Surgeon

Our Board Certified surgeon has been with Mexicali Bariatric Center for 11 years where he has performed over 5,000 surgeries. He now specializes in revision surgery, mostly Duodenal Switch (DS) which is a highly complicated procedure that very few doctors perform.

He graduated from UABC, where he also served as a professor from 2008 through 2014. Ranked second place amongst 25,000 students in the National Residency Exam (ENARM) and is a member of the Mexican College of Surgery for Obesity and Metabolic Diseases (CMCOEM).

He is in charge of the hospital’s ER which makes him very assertive in critical situations and being so skilled with his hands, he plays both drums and guitar.

Dr. Edgar Campos

Bariatric Doctor

Dr. Campos is a bariatric physician and certified clinical nutritionist who has been part of our team for 15 years.

He graduated from the Mexicali School of Medicine and completed post-graduate studies in Integral Obesity Management at the Universidad Católica de Chile. He studied nutrition at CETYS Universidad Mexicali and completed the ASMBS Flexible Endoscopy courses for Bariatric Procedures. He is an active member of the Obesity Society and the American Society for Nutrition, and served in the Nutrition Committee at CMCOEM from 2009-2011.

He is in charge of Pre-Surgery Evaluations, Post-Op Follow Up and Intragastric Balloons. He is a Sleeve Patient himself and loves cooking and listening to music in his spare time.

Dr. Andrés Gutiérrez

Anesthesiologist

While Dr. Gutiérrez has been a part of our team 17 years, he has over 24 years of experience. He graduated from the prestigious UAG (Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara) in 1978 and has exclusively worked in private practice in several hospitals throughout Mexicali since 1984. He will go thoroughly through our patients’ medical history to determine the best plan for each of them. Up until recently, he was an avid (and very good!) tennis player.

Sergio Manríquez

Surgical Technologist

Sergio is in charge of evaluating each of our patients throughout their stay. Once in the OR, he disinfects incision sites on the patient and is in charge of handing supplies to the surgeon as needed and observing the patient’s vital signs. He has been with Mexicali Bariatric Center for 17 years now and surgeons joke about his ability to read their minds since he knows exactly which tools they need and when they need them.

Esmeralda Tellez

OR Nurse

Esmeralda is the showrunner: she prepares the operating room, which includes sterilizing and testing equipment. During surgery, she observes the OR conditions to ensure the sterile field is clear, and after the procedure, she makes sure all the tools are accounted for.

Nina Eguía

Patient Coordinator

Nina is the staff member that has been with Mexicali Bariatric Center the longest, all 20 years. She is the patients’ first contact, providing you with all the information you need and answering all of your questions. Once approved and ready to move on, she will schedule you surgery, help coordinate the logistics of your trip and most importantly: providing follow-up after the procedure even after you are back home.

Karla Eguía

Patient Coordinator

Karla does a little bit of everything: Pre Op she will help with travel arrangements, give you information on pricing and payment methods, packing suggestions, and fasting indications. Post Op she will provide you with documentation like Return To Work letters, Short-Term Disability papers, FMLA papers, and even diet and grocery list suggestions. She is also a Sleeve patient and skiing enthusiast.

Ernesto Arias

Transportation

Ernesto has been driving our patients between San Diego International Airport and Mexicali for over 18 years now. He will proudly show you some interesting landmarks along the way, tell you all about his true passion: Scuba Diving, and share his own journey as a VSG patient.
