FAQs

Q: Do you offer financing?

A: Unfortunately we don’t. However, we do work with Citerra Financial for patients in the US and Medicard for patients in Canada. Keep in mind that since it is not a secured loan, the price could increase up to 30%.

Q: I have never been to Mexico, is it safe?

A: Absolutely! While it is true that some cities experience violence issues every now and then, Mexicali is probably the safest of all border cities. In all our operating years we have not had one single violent incident. Of course, normal precautions are to be taken like you would in any city in the world.

Q: Are standards at the hospital the same as in the US?

A: Almater Hospital is Mexicali’s most reputable private hospital. It has been operating for 35 years and holds a CSG Accreditation. In fact, one of the reasons we choose to operate in a hospital instead of a clinic is because we can be sure that any resources we need are at arms reach (In-House Lab, ICU and Fully Equipped X-Ray Unit etc.)

Q: Will I have complications?

A: No doctor in any field can guarantee you won’t have complications, however, we can proudly say that at Mexicali Bariatric Center we have a surgery success rate of 99.98%, which is well over worldwide averages.

Q: What happens if I have complications after I get back home?

A: It is very rare for late complications to happen, especially if you follow post-op indications (taking your medications, doing breathing exercises, drinking enough liquids, etc). The most common complication would be a leak, and those usually happen during the first 48 hours, which is why we have our patients stay for at least two nights, and perform two or three different leak tests. Having said that, if you do feel uneasy about a symptom we ask that you call us so we can point you in the right direction, it might be normal but new to you. If it is not normal, we will recommend you to go to your local emergency room.

Q: Do I need to keep coming back for follow-up?

A: No. Outer sutures will dissolve on their own. We do ask patients to check-in with us every ten days for the first three months after being discharged, and provide a list of suggested lab-work to be done every three months for the first year post-op, and every year after that. We also offer Virtual Consultations with our Bariatric Psychologist and/or Nutrition Specialist (billed separately). We are happy to say that we are still in touch with some of our “oldest” patients!

Q: Why do I need to pay more to go to Mexicali Bariatric Center when I can go to other doctors in Mexico for about half the price?

A: Health and time are a person’s most valuable assets, which is why we don’t want to cut any corners when it comes to your weight loss journey, and that ends up reflected in the cost. At Mexicali Bariatric Center we schedule no more than 3 procedures per day, to make sure each patient gets the attention they deserve; we operate at a hospital instead of a clinic; and ask that they stay for at least two nights so we can rule out any complications before they leave.
